Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater Deluxe Review PS5

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Deluxe Edition – PS5 Review

When Konami announced that Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater would be getting the remake treatment, the news was met with a mixture of excitement and cautious curiosity. The original Snake Eater is often considered the crown jewel of the Metal Gear series, a blend of stealth, drama and eccentricity that cemented Hideo Kojima’s legacy. Now, on PlayStation 5, the #ad  Deluxe Edition of this remake offers fans a refreshed chance to revisit one of gaming’s most iconic journeys.

From the moment you start the game, the visual overhaul is obvious. Built from the ground up with modern graphics technology, the dense jungles, crumbling Soviet bases and moody weather effects all have a striking realism that simply wasn’t possible when the original launched on the PlayStation 2. The wildlife, an important part of Snake’s survival mechanics, now looks almost lifelike, and you can’t help but pause to admire the level of detail put into foliage, textures and lighting. On a 4K screen, it’s breathtaking.

What makes this remake particularly impressive is how faithfully it preserves the essence of the original while updating it for a modern audience. The control scheme has been modernised, making movement and aiming feel smoother and more intuitive. Yet the deliberate pacing of stealth remains untouched – this is still very much a game about patience, planning and precision. You cannot sprint through the jungle guns blazing and expect success. That slow-burn tension, where every twig snapped beneath your boot might give you away, is intact.

The story, of course, is unchanged. You step into the boots of Naked Snake on a mission that is as much about espionage as it is about betrayal, trust and the making of a legend. The cutscenes remain lengthy and cinematic, but the performances and motion capture now carry more emotional weight thanks to improved visuals. Key moments – such as Snake’s encounters with The Boss – feel more impactful than ever. It’s a reminder of just how strong the narrative was two decades ago, and how well it still stands today.

The Deluxe Edition adds a little extra flair. The steelbook packaging, digital soundtrack, and bonus cosmetic items for Snake are welcome touches for collectors. In-game, these extras don’t fundamentally alter the experience, but they make the package feel more complete for those who want a premium version. There’s also a set of exclusive camo patterns and face paints, which provide subtle advantages during stealth, though they don’t break the balance of the game.

Performance on the PlayStation 5 is superb. Load times are virtually non-existent, frame rates remain solid even during busy firefights, and the use of DualSense haptics adds a tactile edge to the experience. Feeling the tension of the trigger pull or the vibrations of a helicopter passing overhead helps deepen immersion. Audio has also been remastered beautifully, with ambient jungle sounds filling your headphones and the unforgettable score still giving you chills at the right moments.

That said, the remake isn’t flawless. Some players may feel the devotion to authenticity borders on being too conservative. While controls are smoother, the game still carries some slightly dated design choices, such as clunky inventory management and the need for constant menu hopping when treating Snake’s injuries or changing camouflage. For newcomers, these mechanics might feel unnecessarily fiddly compared to modern standards.

Still, these quirks are part of the charm. Snake Eater was never about being streamlined; it was about immersion and detail. And Konami’s decision to preserve those elements shows a respect for the original vision rather than a desire to water it down.

Ultimately, #ad  Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Deluxe Edition is both a love letter to longtime fans and a chance for a new generation to experience one of gaming’s greatest stories in a modern format. It’s a careful balance of old and new, and for the most part, it succeeds brilliantly. Whether you’re a returning veteran or stepping into the jungle for the first time, this is a remake worth playing – and treasuring.

Verdict: 4.5/5 – A faithful, stunningly crafted remake that proves Snake’s legend is timeless.
